CRC Team – Ceramic Materials Service Center
A material’s performance, reactivity, and quality are defined by its surface. But do you truly know the surface properties of your products and raw materials?
The gas adsorption technique (BET method) is the gold standard for quantifying the specific surface area ($m^2/g$) of a material. Complementarily, the analysis of adsorption/desorption data (BJH method) allows for the determination of total pore volume and pore size distribution.
These parameters are essential, as they govern how a material interacts with its environment—whether in chemical reactions, sintering processes, or the final product’s performance.
At CRC, we apply BET analysis to solve critical challenges, such as:
- Processing and Raw Material Control in the Ceramic Industry: Characterizing and comparing aluminas, clays, kaolins, bentonites, and other minerals to ensure batch consistency and predict behavior. We evaluate grinding efficiency, explain the rheological behavior of suspensions, and assess the porosity of final products.
- Catalysis and Filtration: Developing and controlling the efficiency of catalysts, catalytic supports, and filtering membranes by optimizing the reaction area.
- Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics: Characterizing powders for tablet production, controlling drug dissolution rates, and ensuring the desired texture in cosmetic products.
- Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology: Evaluating the morphology of nanomaterials, aerogels, carbon nanotubes, and materials for fuel cells.
- Cements and Adsorbents: Analyzing the fineness and reactivity of cements, as well as the adsorption capacity of activated carbon and zeolites for gas and liquid purification.
- Paints, Pigments, and Polymers: Understanding how pigments and fillers interact with resins and predicting the behavior of polymer foams and other porous materials.
At CRC, we deliver more than just numbers. Our specialized technical team is prepared to interpret results and, in conjunction with other characterizations, diagnose problems and recommend the best solutions for your process or product.
