Ceramic tableware (tableware<\/a><\/u><\/strong>, sanitaryware<\/a><\/u><\/strong>, etc.) can be manufactured with ceramic bodies of different technical characteristics, such as earthenware<\/a><\/u><\/strong>, porcelain tile ceramic bodies, stoneware or fireclays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In all these ceramic bodies, clays play a central role, as they are responsible for enabling the shaping of the pieces and ensuring their integrity in the processing stages before firing, such as transportation, drying and enameling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the case of products manufactured by gluing slip, either at low pressure using plaster molds or under high pressure<\/a><\/u><\/strong> In polymeric molds, the characteristics of the clays determine the mechanical behavior of the newly formed parts. The initial stages after wall formation are particularly critical, as the ceramic body begins to lose moisture and the onset of drying process<\/a><\/u><\/strong> it can generate tensions that can culminate in the appearance of cracks responsible for compromising the parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To prevent this from occurring, clays must enable the generation of suspensions with a high concentration of solids and good thixotropy<\/a><\/u><\/strong>; promote a high degree of particle packing in the layers obtained during forming; and still present good mechanical performance<\/a><\/u><\/strong> during drying, combining high mechanical resistance, with good capacity to withstand deformations, without generating very high drying shrinkage. All these parameters still need to be linked to the body deposition speed, which must be high enough to guarantee the productivity required for the manufacturing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obtaining the performance described above depends on the balance of the physicochemical characteristics of the clay fraction of these masses. In this context, it is essential to evaluate its chemical and mineralogical composition, the grau de cristalinidade<\/a><\/u><\/strong> of clay minerals, their specific surface area and particle size distribution. Analysis of cation exchange capacity, presence of soluble salts, total carbon concentration can still be complementary tools to seek balance of properties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
